St. Thomas's Church Dates from circa 1180; it has a fine Norman chancel arch. Dedicated to St Thomas a'Becket, it became a Chapel-of-ease to St Mary's Priory Church and was then restored in the early 19th century.

Monmouth County Gaol Opened in 1790 to a design by John Howard, closed 1869. Demolished 1884, except Gatehouse, which was the site of public executions on its original flat-roof until 1859. The Chartists were held here in 1840 during their trial in Shire Hall. Carchar Sir Fynwy Fe'i agorwyd yn 1790, yn ôl cynllun John Howard a'i gau yn 1869. The Angel Inn This site began life as Robert le Ffrere's shop around 1240. For the next 400 years it had various uses, becoming the church brew house by 1613. From about 1700 it became The Angel Inn until 1965 when it was returned to its former use as a shop.

St Mary's Priory Church was dedicated in 1101 by Bernard, Chaplin to Henry I, in the presence of Gwethenoc, the founder, and Abbot William of Saumur in Anjou. The church was rebuilt in 1882, retaining Norman remains and the 14th century tower.

The Savoy Theatre occupies what has been called the oldest theatre site in Wales, dating back to Elizabethan times. In 1927 the building was restored as 'The New Picture House', and the first talking picture was shown in 1930.

Judges' Lodging This building has its origins as an early C16 town house, becoming the 'Labour in Vain' inn around 1756. It became used as the Judges' Lodging for the Monmouth Assizes before 1835, and as the Militia Officers' Mess in teh 1870's.

Llety'r Barnwyr Gwreiddiwyd yr adeilad hwn fel ty trefol yn gynnar yn yr 16eg ganrif. Erbyn tua 1756 roedd yn dafarn 'Labour in Vain'. Cyn 1835 fe'i ddefnyddiwyd fel LLety'r Barnwyr ar gyfer Brawdlys Trefynwy ac fel Ystafell Fwyta Swyddogion y Milisia tua 1870.

The Rolls Hall Presented to the people of Monmouth by John Allan Rolls to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887. Architect was F.A. Powell and the cost was £8,000. In 1992 it was converted from a public hall into a public library.

The New Market Hall 1840 Designed by local architect G V Maddox as the produce market, part of the Priory Street development creating a new town centre access road with slaughterhouses beneath. Rebuilt retaining the ground floor facade, after destruction by fire in 1963.

Shire Hall Built in 1724 as a combined assize court and market hall, the statue of Henry V by Charles Peart was added in 1792. The Chartist Trials took place here in 1840. The assize court continued to be held here until 1939.

No 1 Agincourt Square Is a rare early 17th century half-timbered building, restored in the late 19th century when shopfront was added. Dated in the apex of the western gable to 1624, it's initials are those of William Roberts, whose grandson rebuilt Drybridge House.

The King's Head Hotel Circa mid-17th century, reputedly visited by Charles I in 1645, became a posting inn in the late 17th century. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries stagecoaches left here for London. It now includes the former Monmouth Bank (c 1740) and the County Club (c 1877).

Roman Fort The defences of Monmouth's 1st century Roman Fort lie under this building - at right angles to the street; the fort pre-dated the Roman town of Blestium. The western inner defences of the 11th century Norman town also pass under the building, but diagonally.

The Robin Hood Inn Is one of Monmouth's oldest buildings. It's restored front doorway dates from the 16th century, and some interior features from the 17th century. In the 18th century, before Catholic emancipation, an upper room here was used to celebrate Mass.

Monnow Bridge built circa 1270, as a town defence, is the only surviving medieval bridge in Britain with the gate tower standing on the bridge. The gatehouse has served as a toll-house, guard room, gaol and dwelling house.
