Jesse Earl Franklin was born in 1887. For 50 years he owned a general store and post office, where he served as Glen St. Mary’s postmaster for 40 years. The Franklin store served as the social and commercial center of the town. The store, as well as the Glen St. Mary Nursery, boasted the first two telephones in the community. Franklin was active in his church, where he served as teacher, deacon and treasurer. He held memberships in several state and national preservation organizations. The street that runs in front of the Franklin Store and Post Office is named in his honor. Jesse Earl Franklin died in 1969.
