Dr. Richard Vernon Moore, Sr. was born in 1906 in Quincy, Florida, and attended Georgia Normal College, now Albany State. He earned a B.A. degree from Knoxville College, Knoxville, Tennessee in 1932 and his M.A. degree from Atlanta University in 1944. Moore was awarded honorary doctoral degrees from 14 universities, including: Jacksonville University; Florida Institute of Technology, Miami; Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton; Florida Southern College, Lakeland; and the University of Florida, Gainesville. He was affiliated with many civic organizations, including the Daytona Beach Planning Board, Rotary Club, the Halifax Area Board of Governors of the Chambers of Commerce and the Florida Council on Human Relations. Dr. Richard Vernon Moore died in 1994.
