William McMaster Murdoch

William McMaster Murdoch, RNR (28 February 1873 – 15 April 1912) was a British sailor, who was the First Officer on the RMS Titanic. He was the officer in charge on the bridge when the ship collided with an iceberg, and was one of the more than 1,500 people who died when the ship sank.

This tablet is erected to commemorate the heroism displayed by Lieut. William McMaster Murdoch RNR a native of Dalbeattie when on her maiden voyage the RMS TITANIC of which he was first officer collided with an iceberg and sank. 815 of her passengers and 688 of her crew including Lieutenant Murdoch perished. 14th and 15th April 1912. A memorial prize is also to be completed for annually in Dalbeattie Public School where Lieutenant Murdoch was educated.
