Gloria de España y de toda la república de las letras Marcelino Menendez Y Pelayo residió en esta casa de la real academia de la historia desde el año 1894 hasta 1912 siendo primeramente bibliotecario y director después de la misma. A su eterna memoria esta lápida ha dedicado el Excmo Ayuntamiento de Madrid en 30 de marzo de 1921
English translation: Glory of Spain and the whole republic of the letters Marcelino Menendez Y Pelayo resided in this house of the royal academy of history from 1894 to 1912, being first librarian and director after it.
