Lord Wright of Ashton-under-Lyne (1903-1974) An influential figure in the British Textile Industry representing the Amalgamated Weavers Association, the Cotton Board and later the Textile Council. In 1968, Lord Wright became General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Technology from Loughborough University. He was made a Life Peer in the 1968 New Year's Honours list. Lord Wright lived at 12 Brookfield Grove, Ashton-under-Lyne from 1940 to 1974. Unveiled on 20 September 2005
