English translation: Saint-Sauveur Cathedral Its construction spans more than a millennium, from the re-use of Roman elements in the southern part to the Baroque chapels of the northern collateral. This makes the cathedral an abbreviation of architecture and art history. The first episcopal group rises on the Roman forum and receives the baptist of the 5th century with its columns date from the 12th century. The bell tower started in 1323 received its bells only in 1430. They succeeded in the 14th century the main Gothic nave and in the 15th century the flaming Gothic facade. The vantals of the door, finely worked, were carved in 1510 by local imaging craftsmen around Jean Guiramand. Baroque chapels enlarged it to the north in the late 17th century. The cathedral houses the triptych of the “Burning Bush”, painted in 1476 by Nicolas Froment, on which King René and Queen Jeanne of Laval are represented in prayer. [AWS Translate]
