Morgans Grave. For over 200 years this place beside the old Roman road through Lyme has been known as Morgans Grave. Morgan was probably a suicide from a 17th century family of that name. Here until 1834 all suicides had by law to be buried in unconsecrated ground at a junction of roads and with a stake through the heart, but local legend has also made Morgan variously a robber, a deserting sailor, and a sheep thief, with this his place of execution.
