Dans ce Château Vécut de 1809 à sa mort le Général Etienne Maynaud de Lavaux 1751 - 1828 Gouverneur de St Domingue (1793 - 96), il fut l'allié et l'ami de Toussaint Louverture, chef des esclaves révoltés. Il reçut A de Lamartine au Château de Cormatin et lui transmit ses convictions anti - esclavagistes. Son action et ses écrits inspirèrent la loi d'abolition de 1848.
