Scalloway Castle The castle was built in 1600 by Patrick Stewart Earl of Orkney and Lord of Shetland as his principal residence in Shetland. It consists of four storey rectangular main block with a wing of the same height at one corner. The main block contains a hall at first-floor level, reached by a spacious stair within the wing. The upper floors were divided into a series of chambers. A kitchen and other offices occupied the ground floor. Cared for by Historic Scotland
