Norwich has a long history. It has been a city since 1094. From the Middle Ages until the Industrial Revolution, Norwich was the largest city in England after London and one of the most important. This is refelected in its plaques.

Some were triggered by internet memes such as Steve Ullathorne's 2012 image of a George Orwell plaque with a CCTV camera next to it. Others, such as those for Alan Turing, were probably triggered by an anniversary and campaign for recognition.

Addington Square was built between 1810 and 1850, when the area was still mostly fields and market gardens. It became home to the well-to-do escaping densely populated central London. It had two swimming baths by 1840. In 1844, National Trust founder Robert Hunter was born. The Richardsons gang operated here in the 1960's.

The Grand Surrey Canal was started in 1801, with great plans to link fast-developing docks at Rotherhithe with Mitcham and Portsmouth. It opened as far as Camberwell Road in 1811, later reaching Croydon and Peckham, and formed a useful industrial artery for all kinds of goods and materials, finally closing in 1970.

St Mary's Priory Church was dedicated in 1101 by Bernard, Chaplin to Henry I, in the presence of Gwethenoc, the founder, and Abbot William of Saumur in Anjou. The church was rebuilt in 1882, retaining Norman remains and the 14th century tower.

Bicentennial Washington by Avard T. Fairbanks, PH.D. (1897-1987) This bust of George Washington was given by the Board of Trustees of the George Washington University in Washington D.C., to the board of Sulgrave Manor in the spirit of the special relationship between the people of Britain and America. Created for the bicentennial of the United States in 1976, this striking likeness has won international acclaim for portraying the spirit of indomitable will of the "Father of his Country". The first bronze casting was installed at the George Washington University in 1980. Bicentennial Washington is also displayed at George Washington's Virginia residence, Mount Vernon.

Crimean War (1854-56) This Plaque is in honour of the local men of Tameside who served in the Crimean War. The bridge was built in the first year of the War and was named after first major battle, the Battle of Alma, fought by the British and French against an unsuccessful Russian Army. Alma Bridge also served as a Toll Bar and monies were collected until 26th June 1902. Unveiled by Executive Leader of Tameside Counsil, Councillor Roy Oldham CBE on 23rd April 2002
