The York Road Ground Maidenhead F. C. played their first game on this ground on Thursday Feburary 16th 1871 and it is now officially recognised as the oldest senior football ground in the world used by the same club. The ground originally used for cricket was much larger then and was owned by William Grenfell (later to become Lord Desborough) The Football Club acquired the freehold of the site in November 1920 for £1,450
