1832 - 1966 This bridleway "Comet Trail" is formed on the trackbed of the Leicester and Swannington Railway, the first steam operated railway in the Midlands and was engineered by Robert Stephenson whose father, George, drove the first train from Leicester - through Ratby - on 17th July 1832 hauled by the locomotive "Comet". The wrought inron track was carried on stone blocks. Two of the originals are here, displayed.
