From Nottingham's Plaques and Statues by Terry Fry, "..In his will William Stephenson Holbrook, gentleman, of Wlebeck House, 12 Bentinck Road, Nottingham left £200 to the city for erecting tablets 'to mark the several spots within the said city upon which events of historical interest have occurred, for example the spot where King Charles I raised his standard.'....Eventually fifteen Holbrook plaques were erected but today seven are missing."
