Dr Helen Boyle (1869-1957) Pioneering doctor & psychiatrist. She led the work for 50 years here at the former Lady Chicester Hospital. First woman president of the Royal Medico-Phychological Association.

In 1905 this house became the Lewes Road Hospital. Opened by Dr Helen Boyle it was the first in England to care for poor women suffering nervous breakdown. In 1912 it moved to larger premises in Hove.
