Samuel A. Swann was born in North Carolina in 1832 and came to Fernandina in 1855 to work as an accountant for Joseph Finegan and Company. At that time he was also assistant secretary and treasurer of the Florida Railroad Company, David Yulee’s corporation that was chartered in 1853 to construct a railroad from Fernandina to Cedar Key. He was an agent for the Florida Land and Immigration Company, the Florida Town Improvement Company and the Trustees for the Internal Improvement Fund in the sale of a huge tract of land. Samuel Swann died in 1909.
