James Stirrat Topping Kennedy GC (11th September 1930-21st December 1973). James Kennedy was a security guard at British Rail's Springburn Works and was assaulted then shot and killed, whilst repeatedly attempting to foil an armed robbery in the early hours of 21st December 1973. He was posthumously awarded the George Cross for his courage and sacrifice.
