Raddlebarn Junior and Infant School
(1905-present)

place and school

Aged 119

Established in 1905, Raddlebarn Primary School has been an integral part of Selly Oak. In its history the school has been through many changes; two World Wars, several epidemics which have closed the school down more than once! Times have changed since its first Headteacher, Miss Clulee with her two assistants, opened on the 17th February with an amazing 205 pupils! Thank goodness staffing ratios are much improved now. Even today when walking around the school, there is lots of evidence of its history. Above the doors you may notice the entrances are marked with signs that date back to when it was first opened. There is also an old war memorial from the First World War, of the boys and teacher who were killed during this time.

These gates were originally installed at Raddlebarn Junior and Infant School, Selly Oak. Their refurbishment in 1999 was made possible by a donation to the Friends of Winterbourne Garden from the estate of the late Tom Pitt (1904-98), sometime President of the National Pansy and Viola Society and a Winterbourne Friend.
