Scott v. Shepherd 96 Eng. Rep. 525 (K.B. 1773), commonly known as the "flying squib case," is an important English tort law case on remoteness and the principle of novus actus interveniens as it related to the division between trespass and case.

The Town Hall. Built in 1720 as a Market House. In 1770 an incident involving Messrs Scott and Shepherd took place here, the resulting court case is cited in defining the Law of Tort. By 1785 the arches had been filled in and the extension added.
