1944 University Boat Race On 26th February 1944 crews from Oxford and Cambridge launched their eights from the boathouse to contest the third war-time University Boat Race. Oxford won by three-quarters of a length in 8 minutes 6 seconds, watched by over 4000 spectators lining the banks of The River Great Ouse on the Queen Adelaide Course. This plaque was unveiled by visiting members of the 1944 crews to mark the sixtieth anniversary of their race, the only University Boat race not rowed on the River Thames in the 175 year history of the event.
