Jessie Burgess was a British politician. She was the Labour councillor for the Camberwell Metropolitan Borough Council from 1934 to 1951, the first woman to be Mayor of Camberwell. She was made an Honorary Freeman of Camberwell in 1958 and made a CBE in the 1966 Birthday Honours. Burgess Park is named after her.

Jessie Burgess and the Abercrombie Plan laid the foundations for the park. Jessie Burgess, first woman Mayor of Camberwell, is remembered for her work during the blitz, and supporting the creation of green space. In 1943 the London County Council's Abercrombie Plan proposed clearing bomb-damaged and slum buildings to create a new park.
