(1739-1806)

Died aged 67

Félix Solesio (Finale-Ligure, Savona, Italy, January 30, 1739 - Malaga, October 12, 1806) was an Italian businessman settled in Spain. Endorsed by the prestige that the manufacture of Genoese paper had had in the Spain of the XVII and XVIII centuries, he was the person chosen by José de Gálvez to carry out his project to supply America with playing cards and to economically develop Macharaviaya (Málaga), his hometown. Solesio, an enlightened cardmaker and papermaker, arrived in Spain and became the assistant of three Royal Factories (the card factories of Macharaviaya, Madrid and the paper factory of San Fernando de Henares), but after having amassed a great fortune, in the last years of his life he had to mortgage most of his assets.
