Turbine Hall A Turbine Hall A was completed in 1935. At 145 m long and 25 m wide (475 ft z 82 ft), it housed the three turbines that converted high-pressure steam into electricity. The brick outlines on the floor indicate the size and locations of the turbines. The Art Deco interior features blue-speckled faience tiling that has been restored, with new bespoke made tiles to match the originals. Turnine Hall A stopped generating electricity in 1975 and was subsequently decommisioned. The floors have been reinstated in their original locations and Grecian patterns from the original railings have been used in the design of the new balustrading. The glazed roof and windows to the north and south, blacked-out during WWII to avert bombing by the Luftwaffe, have been reglazed. The original steel roof trusses have been retained and strengthened.
