Francis Close (11 July 1797 – 18 December 1882) was the Anglican rector of Cheltenham (1826–1856) and Dean of Carlisle (1856–1881).

Cheltenham Infant School This is the oldest purpose built infant school in existence. It was built, with a gallery and playground, for 250 pupils to the designs of Samuel Wilderspin and opened on the 26th July 1830. Founded by Rev. Francis Close.
