Wikidata WikipediaWalter Langton (died 1321) of Castle Ashby in Northamptonshire, was Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield and Treasurer of England. The life of Langton was strongly influenced by his uncle William Langton (d. 1279), Archbishop of York-elect, by Robert Burnell, Lord Chancellor of England and then by the years in which he served King Edward I. Lichfield Cathedral was improved and enriched at his expense.

Under and extending along this pavement are the remains of the great bridge over the Vivarium by Bishop Walter de Langton (1296 to 1321). It lies about four feet below the pavement level. Consists of seven arches and is seven feet in width.
