This building is over 800 years old and retains many of its original medieval features. It was once home to Mayor of Galway Thomas Lynch Fitz-Ambrose until it was seized from him by Col. Peter Stubbers following the surrender of Galway to Cromwell's invading forces in 1653. Stubbers is thought to have been responsible for the beheading of King Charles of England in 1649
