Cousin of William Wordsworth, poet. Lived at a house called Wordsworth House which has been joined to neighbouring house to form Penrith Town Hall."The Town Hall was created in 1905-6 by the modernisation of two Adam-style houses dating from 1791. One of these, known as Wordsworth House, was the residence of the poet’s cousin, Captain John Wordsworth, who died in 1805 - see wall plaque."Plaque now in storage at town hall.

John Wordsworth (1843–1911), FBA, was an English prelate and classical scholar. He was Oriel Professor of the Interpretation of Holy Scripture at the University of Oxford from 1883 to 1885, and Bishop of Salisbury from 1885 to 1911.
