Site of the Town of Grand Cane. Here General Sam Houston built a home in 1843 and in it resided until 1845. A post office was established May 22, 1846 with Vernon B. Lea as postmaster. It was discontinued October 24, 1868 and reestablished April 26, 1869. The name of the town was changed to Ironwood August 26, 1869. The post office was discontinued March 15, 1900. #9656
