W tym budynku w nocy z 12 na 13 grudnia 1981r. zatrzymano Jana Ludwiczaka, przewodniczącego komisji zakładowej NSZZ „Solidarność” KWK „Wujek” i pobito 4 innych górników. Wydarzenie to stało się bezpośrednią przyczyną rozpoczęcia strajku w kopalni „Wujek”. 16 grudnia 1981r. podczas pacyfikacji protestu milicja zastrzeliła 9 górników, a 23 innych odniosło rany postrzałowe.
