Temple Street Children's University Hospital first started as a charitable infirmary here on 7th November 1872
Barry tells us that, "The plaque recalls the founding of a charitable infirmary in that house on 7 November 1872. It opened with 18 beds and was a precursor to Dublin's famous Temple Street Children's Hospital. Initially, the infirmary was run by a group of lay people and catered for Dublin's poorest children. Many of the admissions were simple cases of starvation.
By 1876, the demands placed upon it were such that governance was
transferred to the Irish Sisters of Charity."
