The home of Inner London's Education Service from 1922 ILEA succeeding the London School Board 1870-1904 and the LCC 1904-1965
With preparations under for the manufacture of a commemorative plaque for County Hall as a 'final defiant act' by the Greater London Council prior to its abolition on 1st April 1986, the Inner London Education Authority (ILEA) decided it would like to follow suit and a plaque, with a design conceived alongside that of its partner, was duly prepared. Both plaques were unveiled on the last working day of the GLC, 27th March 1986, by the council's leader Ken Livingstone. The ILEA was itself abolished in 1990.
