St. Aubin - Paspebiac. In the spring of 1776 Charles Robin (1743-1824) left St. Aubin to investigate cod fishery opportunities in the Bay of Chaleurs, Canada. There he chose a site at Paspebiac in the Gaspe peninsula to be the headquarters of what was to become one of the most important firms in the "fisheries." Over the next centaury other Jersey & Guernsey firms followed. Over 450 family names of Islanders who went out to work for them can still be found today in the communities highlighted on the carving in Gaspe stone. A similar map of the Island of Jersey, carved in Jersey granite, telling the same story has been set up in Paspebiac.
