Paweł Edmund Strzelecki (1797-1873) lived and worked on Sackville Street. He was born in Gluszyna near Poznan. Sensitive to human misery, he came to the aid of the Irish people in the years 1847-1849 during the Great Famine (1845-1849). He is buried in the Church of St Adalbert in Poznan.
