Marianne Moore 1887-1972 The poet, a pioneer of American Modernism (and an avid Brooklyn Dodgers fan), lived here from 1929 to 1965. Her poetry is descriptive, reflective, and minutely detailed, with unique rhyme patterns and verse forms. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Collected Poems (1951). In a 1960 essay, she wrote: “Brooklyn has given me pleasure, has helped educate me; has afforded me, in fact, the kind of tame excitement on which I thrive.”
