In Commemoration This cairn marks the place where, in August 1862, the first settlers landed in the Comox Valley. They reached this destination by Indian canoe up the Tsolum River. In memory of this historical event Louisa S. Bates, daughter of Reginald Terry Carwithen, one of these first settlers, dedicates this cairn.
