In memory of nine members of the West Ham Auxiliary Fire Service and one West Ham Fireman who died as a result of enemy action while on duty at Gainsborough Road School then in use as Sub Fire Station 16, when the school suffered a direct hit from a high explosive bomb on the night of 8th/9th December 1940
