This plaque is erected as a "thank you" to John Gould MBE a resident of Newbury, founder member of the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust, and ex working boatman. Without John Gould there would not be a Kennet & Avon Canal today. His efforts and energy are an example to everyone. March 1997
