McCrae's Battalion 1914 - 2014. Usher Hall 27 November 1914. A grand recruiting meeting was helds for Sir george McCrae's New Edinburgh Battalion. The 16th (Service) Battalion of the Royal Scots (Scotland's Sporting Battalion) was better known by its familiar title 'McCrae's Own'. McCrae's won undying fame on the killing fields of France and Flanders, where many of the original volunteers lie. Edinburgh remembers them with pride.
