Commemorating the Escape From Jersey of Three French Men Andre Couval - Clement Milet - Henri Letourneur Arriving in Gorey Harbour from Carteret on 29th June 1940 hidden aboard the fishing boat Marie-Georges owned by Emile Valmy they were met by Advocate Philip Richardson who advised there were no more boats leaving for England.He offered refuge at Le Ferme, St Martin. In defiance of the orders of the German occupying authorities they found an abandoned motor boat and having been helped to secure spare parts and petrol, left Rozel Harbour on the night of 27th August 1940. Thirty five hours later they reached Dartmouth in Devon from where they travelled to London and joined the Free French Forces. They served their country well in the heat and dust of the North African desert and later played their part in the D Day Landings.
