Site of North Carolina's First Public Power Community Statesville, N.C. Near this location on February 4, 1889, the City of Statesville introduced electriv lighting to its citizens. A steam powered electric generator was used to illuminate 22 carbon arc electric street lights in Statesville's downtown for a momentous two hours.
