Peabody Academy. School founded in 1880 by the American Missionary Association for the training of African American teachers. Orishatukeh Faduma was principal 1895-1914. Through the work and guidance of Reverend Faduma the academy produced alumni that would eventually become leaders in this country's military and education systems as well as the civil rights movement. After 88 years of education, the Peabody Academy closed its doors in 1968.
