Israel Zangwill (1864-1926), writer and philanthropist, lived here.
The plaque - among the very last erected by the London County Council, which was abolished on 1st April 1965 - was unveiled by Israel's son Professor Oliver Zangwill on what would have been his 101st birthday, 21st January 1965.
