2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics gold post boxes
This is the only one of the famous Penfold type (hexagonal Victorian) post box to have received gold paint, though it is not an original but one of around 100 replicas installed at heritage locations at the end of the 1980s. Original Penfold boxes display the manufacturers name - Cochrane - cast into the front of the plinth. The replicas should have a plate on the bottom stating 'a replica by Machan Engineering 1988' though in some cases - including this one - they've fallen off.
