Sir Joshua Reynolds artist 1753-1761 lived here

He definitely didn't. A plaque erroneously suggesting that Joshua Reynolds lived here was recorded by the LCC in 1958 - probably not this one. The initial confusion may have arisen as the result of the houses in Great Newport Street having been rebuilt and renumbered after Reynold's time, at this point it is deliberately misleading. Reynolds did occupy a large house in Great Newport Street c1753-1760 before moving to Leicester Fields. The Great Newport Street house was rebuilt as two houses in 1767, becoming No.10 and No.11, both long since demolished.
