#8 Charles Dickens and All The Year Round

  • Jez Nicholson
plaque #1114 with 3,339 page views. Charles Dickens is the most commemorated on plaques ("beplaqued"?) subject in the UK with 71+. He has plaques for the places where he lived and wrote (Portsmouth, London, Kent) as well as places where he performed (Newcastle, Liverpool, etc.). Dickens was the original content creator, writing books, publishing stories in instalments in magazines, and touring the country to make appearances. We have much to learn from looking at how he adapted to books becoming more accessible and getting a wider audience. Not absolutely sure why this particular plaque garnered more attention but it has.
