Commemorated on 1 plaque
This plaque commemorates the siting in Botchergate Carlisle of the first post box in mainland Britain in 1853. The box was made by local iron founders Messrs Abbot & Co. A replica Victorian pillar box stands outside the old town hall in the market place.
