In this cottage there lived from 1785 to 1789 William Carey, shoemaker, schoolmaster, preacher, scholar and missionary pioneer. While beneath this roof he conceived and developed the great missionary that changed India and awakened world-wide movements. He ministered to the Baptist church in this village for over 4 years. Born at Paulerspury 17th Aug. 1761, he died 9th June 1834 and his body was buried at Semampore, India. "Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God" "He being dead yet speaketh"
