This bridge crossed the railway which serviced Queen Mary's Military Hospital The Lancashire Asylum Board handed over the site to the War Office in 1914. Throughout the Great War the hospital treated 56,800 soldiers. In 1920 the site was returned to The Lancashire Asylum Board.
