Circa 1894 Father Henry McNamara This home stands on Lot 31 of the original naval village of Melville, which was granted by Governor Sir Philip Wodehouse to Hendrik Carolus Stroebel in 1864. Stroebel subdivided the property and sold the lower half to Rev. William Breach in 1894. The upper half, known as Erf 448 was sold to Timothy Thomas Hill, who later sold it in 1904 to Father Henry Michael McNamara of the Catholic Church. The property was bought by Maria Schoonees in 1911 and later in 1920 by Aubrey Etheridge Cloete, son of local ex- Magistrate Sebastian Daniel Cloete who came to Knysna as Magistrate in 1911. In 1943 the property changed hands again when Jacobus Jonker, local furniture manufacturer, acquired the property. Malcolm Tilliduff, who bought this property in 1992, sold it to the Wedlake Family Trust in 1994.
