This monument was erected by the States of Guernsey in 1953 in memory of Sir John Doyle, K.C.B., K.C. lieutenant governor of Guernsey 1803/1815. It replaces the original monument which was erected in 1825 and destroyed by the Germans in 1944 during the occupation of the island.
